It’s 11:00 am on a Saturday morning and singer-songwriter EVRYWHR is anxiously checking his Facebook page. A status he posted three days ago has received more than 500 comments and he couldn’t be more thrilled.
“I want to go through and respond to each one of these, but that number is kind of overwhelming,” he says tentatively. “I’m going to do it though. I want to let people know how much I appreciate their support.”
To the average person, just reaching 500 comments is a feat in and of itself, but lucky for us, EVRYWHR is anything but average. You see, he and his writing partner Derrick Okoth can now add Grammy-nominated songwriters to their growing list of accolades.
Moments after getting the call about the Grammy nod, an elated EVRYWHR took to YouTube to share the news with everyone. Today, however, the giddiness has turned into humility as a more level-headed EVRYWHR emerges. “I’m from a small city. From Port Huron [Michigan],” he says. “This just keeps making me realize that if you follow your dreams, no obstacle is too great to overcome. I’ve come a long way from where I was, but I’ve still got a long way to go.”
EVRYWHR is the kind of artist you’re glad to see stealthily making the rounds in the cool kids’ playlists. He combines a unique mix of cinematic sounds and impactful lyrics to deliver a robust visual experience simply by listening to his songs. It’s a process that comes out of years of trial and error, experience and a refusal to play by anyone else’s rules.
His latest project, an album scheduled for release in 2013, is a testament to his resolve and artistry. “I’ve played it safe up until this point, so this album is a breakthrough for me creatively.”
Each track explores the peaks and valleys that come along with truly embracing one’s potential. Also present on this project is EVRYWHR’s affinity for the spoken word genre. “Spoken word has always been a huge part of my life, and it allows me to be very unorthodox in my song writing,” he says. “I can always find unique ways and viewpoints to express the different scenarios people have gone through.”
After firing off his final Facebook reply, he sits back with a look of accomplishment on his face. “Sometimes, I’m so focused on everything I have to do that my mind is literally everywhere*, but after moments like this, I can honestly step back and say that this shit is really fun!”
Based on the tracks that have been making the rounds thus far, it’s clear that EVRYWHR loves what he does, and people are truly captivated by his music. His debut album “T.W.O.” is available on iTunes, and you can check out several of his other tracks by venturing over to the Audio page.
*all puns intended.
